I'm Engaged! Now What?

engaged.png

Are you newly engaged and wondering what to do next?

The very first thing to determine, even before setting a date, is whether to have a religious or civil ceremony.

That might sound simple, but it could be a difficult decision if you are of different faiths. If this is true in your case, then:

  • Speak to clergy from both of your religions, and ask if they are open to co-officiating.

  • If one (or both) is not, ask him or her to refer you to a less conservative member of his or her denomination.

  • To find ministers who specialize in interfaith ceremonies, contact the Unitarian Universalist Association

Many religions require that every engaged couple attend premarital counseling for several weeks, sometimes months. Find out about these requirements before setting a wedding date.

If you decide to have a civil ceremony, then make sure the officiant can perform a legal union in the state where you will be married.

A few officiants we happen to like here at Trilogy Event Design include:

(It is just a coincidence that they are all women.)

Many religious ceremonies require a payment in the form of a donation. Civil celebrants will either have a fixed rate or a customizable package rate.

Once you have decided on the type of ceremony, then you can choose the type of venue for your ceremony: church, chapel, synagogue, a museum, art gallery, restaurant, hotel, your home, a beach, a park, barn... the list goes on and on.

Some religious officiants will not perform the ceremony outside of their house of worship. Be sure to ask about this before making a commitment.

We’ll be back soon with more useful tips and interesting tidbits to help you plan an amazing event. If you can’t wait, feel free to schedule an initial meeting to discuss the details for your special day.

Until next time,

Your Wedding Venue Search

Finding Your Wedding Venue.png

One of the first items on your wedding or event planning checklist is to find a venue. This may be easier to accomplish if you already have the venue picked out in your mind based on a past experience. If you haven't, then finding the right venue can be a challenge even with the internet at your disposal. And, until you find the right venue, you can't set the date of your event!

One of the services that Trilogy Event Design offers its clients is a venue search in which we take our clients' vision for their wedding and work to find a venue which fits their needs. Sure there are websites and guides that will help you find a venue but no website will offer you the personalized experience of having a planner get to know you - your style, your personality, and your story - and find the venue that matches all of these elements while also staying within your budget and any other requirements you may have.

We will be sharing some of our tips to consider over the coming months in our blog starting with this article.

The first thing to consider in your venue search is location, location, and location.

  • Do your families live in the same area?

  • Are you looking for a destination wedding on a beach?

  • Are you in search of a rustic and outdoorsy venue surrounded by the sounds of nature?

  • Or, would you prefer a city wedding in a ballroom looking out onto the skyline?

The budget you have set for your wedding or event will certainly influence the venue that you choose. While there is the notion that a wedding in the city will generally be more than one in the suburbs, working with our team on your venue search will certainly increase the odds of finding a venue in the location you want within the budget you've set.

Different spaces offer different inspirations with regards to the overall look and design of your event. Some venues may have a lot of drama that need slight accents of decor to reveal your personality, while others are more of a blank canvas in which you can paint whatever scene you'd like.

Another consideration that will influence your venue research and decision is how the weather may affect your day. If your wedding ceremony will be outdoors, you should have a plan B for the possibility that Mother Nature will not play nice with you on your day. How many remember the freak snowstorm that dumped a foot of snow on the last Saturday of October 2012? Some couples would prefer not to even risk the idea of bad weather by having an indoor wedding, while others won't give it a second thought and have the garden party style wedding reception they always dreamed of having.

This list only touches the tip of the iceberg for beginning your venue search, and we will be returning to this topic in future posts.
