Real Wedding: Whitney & Richard

Once upon a time, we met a beautiful young lady and her dashing fiance who live out of state but wanted to celebrate their wedding in New Jersey to be closer to their family and long-time friends. Whitney wanted her wedding to be a glamorous black tie event with gold, black, and ivory as her color palette and regal banquet tables. Richard just asked that it not look to gothic. We achieved this look with tall candelabras, sequined table linens, gold table settings, and tall white thrones for the bride & groom. Their sweetheart table was elevated and covered with a gold sequined table cloth. Their elegantly decorated cake was prominently displayed on the dance floor just below the sweetheart table. We added two 24-foot long banquet tables in black sequined covers on either side of the ballroom and surrounded them with round tables in black satin. Gold chiavarri chairs lightened the guest seating areas.

Our entire team of incredible professionals, including the venue's staff, worked very well together to make Whitney and Richard's wedding a FABULOUS event.

Birthday-Fever!

We've been doing our own celebrating this month, as September hosts the birthdays of not one but two fabulous ladies: Trilogy Event Design's Chief Event Planner Randi Martin and Creative Director Francesca Staffieri! Besides celebrating their own birthdays, Randi and Francesca collaborated on the event design for a Sweet 16 Birthday Party held at Talamore Country Club this past weekend.

We love Talamore Country Club, and not just because we are a preferred vendor. From Weddings and Anniversary Parties to Sweet 16s and Mitzvahs, Talamore provides a beautiful back-drop for any event.

Speaking of beautiful... Randi had the pleasure of working with a beautiful couple this past year: Jacalyn and Olivier.

After their wonderful wedding ceremony at St. Alphonsus in Ambler, PA, the festivities continued at the reception at another gorgeous venue: the Michener Art Museum! We'll have more professional photos and a full blog coming soon featuring this amazing couple, but we wanted to share this fantastic candid shot Randi took of our couple and their bridal party in front of the museum.

While Randi partied the night away with this fab couple, Francesca put the finishing touches on the day-of wedding designs for Chris and Elaina's stationery.

Elaina and Chris found Francesca almost a year ago when they were referred to us by a friend. Even though they live out of state and never met in-person, through the magic of telephones and the internet, Francesca was able to collaborate with them on their designs and give them the attention they deserved just as if they lived in the same state!

Their photographic save the date set the mood last year for what was to be a great day at the Boone Hall Plantation. For their ceremony program, they asked Francesca to design a poster that tied in with the other designs created for their wedding invitation suite while also featuring a funny little girl...

An Amazing Vineyard Wedding…

No two couples are alike. At Trilogy Event Design, we're thrilled to have worked with so many wonderful couples that want to tell their story through their wedding day. And as we closed out the Summer of 2014, we were lucky enough to see a year's worth of planning and designing come together for our amazing couple Ranjana and Tim! (Thanks to Colleen Joy, owner/photographer of Full Circle Photography & Design for many of the photos featured in this blog).

This fabulous, sweet, and very funny couple visited our studio back in the Summer of 2013 with a vision of a rustic-chic wedding. After taking them on a venue search, they decided upon Sand Castle Winery in Bucks County, PA for their wedding reception.

This gorgeous venue had the character and style they were envisioning for their big day. With the surrounding vineyard proving to be a formidable view for their guests, the immediate impact of pulling up to the winery and seeing the Sand Castle set the stage perfectly for what was to be a terrific evening.

To get their guests excited for their wedding reception, Ranjana & Tim asked Francesca to design them an invitation suite that reflected the overall look of their reception and incorporated elements from the winery. On a kraft paper, Francesca created a wine-stained invitation suite that was the talk of their guests in the lead-up to the wedding.

Sand Castle Winery has a tent attached to the building itself. The tables were adorned with burlap linens with beautiful centerpieces created by Kate Farley Design.

Besides designing floral, Kate — using the designs Trilogy Creative Designer Francesca Staffieri created for our couple's invitation suite — designed the chalk art signs that were at the buffet tables and cocktail lounge.

While the guests were treated to a wine tasting held by the winery, Ranjana & Tim didn't want their guests to go home empty-handed so they chose a wine as their favor. Francesca designed the wine labels pictured above as well as the seating cards hung around the neck of the bottles.

Trilogy Event Design Chief Event Planner Randi Martin was always at arm's length over the course of the evening, coordinating the other vendors and the event, while our couple spent the evening dancing with their family and friends.

As the night drew to a close, with DJ Kyle from Synergetic Sound & Lighting providing the music everyone was dancing to and their guests eating the delicious food by caterer Chand Palace, Ranjana & Tim cut their cake from Lochel's Bakery

It truly was a fun evening, and we couldn't have been happier to work with such a fun-loving, sweet, and beautiful couple! Congratulations, Ranjana & Tim! We wish you all the best on your new life together :)

Having a Wedding Planner Versus a Venue Coordinator

Of course you need the coordinator provided by your wedding venue (ceremony and/or reception) because they are most familiar with the way things are usually run at your chosen location. However, there is a difference between this person and an outside wedding planner that you would hire to be your liaison.

The venue coordinator is responsible for what happens inside their 4 walls. They are responsible for making sure you get the items you paid them to provide. They make sure the caterer provides the right food at the right time. They make sure the bar is stocked properly. They make sure the right number of tables and chairs are provided for your guests to be seated. The venue coordinator often leaves after the meal is served and leaves the rest of the event in the hands of the banquet captain.

Your privately contracted wedding planner may help you create the details for your wedding (venue, professionals, colors and/or theme, stationery, flowers, etc.) They will start working before you get to the ceremony and after you leave the reception. They will troubleshoot problems as they arise so you don't have to interrupt your moments with friends and family.

Real examples from our experience... Your photography services end before the reception is over so the timeline has to be adjusted accordingly... the florist delivered the wrong corsages for the mothers of the bride and groom... half of the specialty linens ordered didn't arrive at the venue... the limo driver got lost on the way to the church (with the bride inside). These are issues that the venue coordinator either would not know about or would not be able to help you with.

There are many other things that a wedding planner that you personally select and hire will do for you, but we hope you now have a better understanding of the differences. If your venue coordinator tells you that you won't need a wedding planner because they do it all, just ask them what they do to help you before you arrive at the facility.

This 20,000 square foot space will be playing host to a plethora of amazing wedding and event professionals who will be coming together with Trilogy Event Design to bring this year's Knot Magazine Market Mixer to life!

Places to Have a Fabulous Party

The Philadelphia area is full of fabulous and fantastic places to host your next big event. There are already so many websites dedicated to wedding venues, so I won’t be redundant. Where do we go for smaller, but very important, parties?

Here are a few places I happen to like a lot:

For Bridal Showers: Radnor Hotel

The garden room overlooks the amazing formal gardens. The view is breathtaking and the service is top of the line. If you want the bride-to-be to feel like a princess, this is the place to be.

For Bridesmaids Luncheon or Tea: Mary Cassatt Tea Room @ Rittenhouse Hotel

I could not scream the word “elegance” any louder than the Mary Cassatt Tea Room already does. You’ll feel like you stepped into a Cassatt painting. The large selection of teas and yummy variety of tea sandwiches and pastries will make you wish you could be there every day.

For Baby Showers: Manayunk Brewery

The River Club at the Manayunk Brewery and Restaurant is a spectacular setting in the rehabbed loft space of the former Woolen Mill.

While there are many other places that could be listed, we need to save room for future posts too. Feel free to list your favorites in the comments section below.

See you soon. Muchos Smooches.

Randi
