With all of the chaos and turmoil that has touched every part of this nation in the past week, it has been difficult to write something cheery and upbeat for you to enjoy. We did not intend to extend today’s black out to this blog, but…
The fact of the matter is that we are not ok.
While George Floyd’s death was not the first time a black man was killed by white police, it was the first time it was televised for the world to witness. I don’t know about you, but I’ve never seen someone killed in real life.
This was traumatic!
This happened while we were still trying to wrap our minds around the senseless murders of Breonna Taylor and Ahmaud Arbury. This happened while we were appauled by Amy Cooper calling police to falsely report being threatened in Central Park by an African American man.
Equally upsetting and incredibly difficult are the conversations that many mothers (of all races) are having with their children about what the country is going through. Explaining why people are so angry. Explaining why some people are protesting peacefully while others have chosen to riot. Explaining that some people just aren’t good humans.
When will it end? How will it end? How will America be different when it ends?
This is not a fight about race. The fight is against racism. There is a big difference. There is a lot of work to be done.
We don’t have much celebration in our hearts today. We are not ok. We hope next week will be different. We hope there will be positive change made to lift our spirits and get the glitter going once again.
In the meantime, spread love not hate. Stay safe and be well.
