1. Schedule tastings. If you love cake, this is the most fun of all your wedding to dos. Unless you have your heart set on a baker already, we suggest you try 2 or 3. Ask questions. Look at pictures.
2. Select a style. Choose your dress and reception decor before you decide on the cake design. Your baker should advise you on choices to match your venue, the season, etc.
3. Size matters. Your guest count dictates the number of tiers your cake will have. If you have 200 guests, but don't want a 5-tier tower of a cake, then ask about having a smaller cake for photos and a sheet cake to supplement the rest.
4. How much will it cost? Cakes tend to start at $3-$5 per slice (1 per guest). Then the design begins. Fondant costs more than butter cream. Elaborate details will add to the cost.
